Choosing The Right College

Before we get into the college discussion, please permit a brief word about education in general.   Much too frequently, education is a process whereby an instructor transfers his/her beliefs, not just about subject matter, but about right and wrong, and life in general, to the student.

That is the primary defect in our American public education system.   That is why we, in our family, chose to home school our son, through high school.   Many instructors, even in " Christian Schools " are professing Christians at best, and lacking in true submission to God.   And in public schools, more often, the instructors are atheists, or evolutionists, or agnostics.   It might be assumed that if the topic is plumbing, or computers, or a foreign language, the beliefs of the instructors might be less important, than if the subject is history, or science, or theology, or one of the other humanities.   But, even in the trades, the instructor, to some degree, becomes a role model, good or bad, for the student.

The Bible tells us in Deuteronomy 4:9 :

" Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren... "

Especially in spiritual matters, parents are to be the primary educators of their children.   Far too often parents shirk this responsibility, depend upon others to perform this role, and then wring their hands, and grieve, when their children go bad.

In schools of higher education, the tendency for the education to be a "process whereby an instructor transfers his/her beliefs, not just about subject matter, but about right and wrong, and life in general, to the student," is even greater.   That is why the choice of a college, university, Christian college, or a " Bible School " is so critical.

Even Christian colleges and Bible schools need close scrutiny.   Many teach against what they call " cults ", yet practice many of the things that the cults do.   Some have lower standards of conduct, and life styles, than the cults that they preach against.   Does the school excuse sin, because Jesus died to provide forgiveness of sins?   Do they brush off sin as " backsliding?   Do they teach a cheap grace, whereby a person performs some act, or says a prayer, or gets baptized, or joins their church, and the student is " all set " for life.   That is not what Jesus taught!   If that is what the college teaches, better find another college.

A horrible tragedy repeats itself millions of times every year.   That is the Christian family, who sends it's children off to a secular college, secular school, or false doctrine Christian school, with the thought:   "I'll pray for them, and they'll come out Ok."   Then they can't understand, why their children end up in ungodly life styles,- fornication, ungodly same sex relationships, drug habits, alcohol or nicotine addiction, or joining something, like a cult, etc. etc.

Would you send your children into a burning building, and think they'll be Ok, because you prayed for them?   Wake up and smell the coffee.   It's the same thing!

Your child's instructors quickly become their role model, good or bad.   Please choose carefully!
