"Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come, when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers, and they will turn their ears from the truth, and be turned aside to fables."
( 2 Tim 4:2-4 )Messages based upon the Bible are becoming less popular every day. As the apostle wrote to Timothy, the time will come when people will have itching ears. I think we are in that time now.
I received more than the normal amount of e-mail responses this week. Most were supportive, but also contained some reservations concerning some of my statements on the website. My responses were similar. If we choose to be taught by someone, because what they are saying sounds good to us, we could be making a big mistake.
Those of us who read the Bible daily, frequently use the expression," We are now living in post christian America. " I am always a little sad when I hear that, and when I say that. And, yes unfortunately, I have to say it, because it is true. American society today operates so contrary to Biblical principles, that most people are highly offended when someone preaches what the Word says. I often hear it inferred, that one religion is as good as another. For more on that subject, click here:
Religion: Isn't one as good as the other? A democratic republic, such as ours, cannot operate effectively outside of the christian faith. It was designed for a nation of christians,- not necessarily Baptists, or Pentacostals, or Roman Catholics, or any particular kind of christians, but for a nation of citizens, who hold to a basic christian faith. It's not just me saying this. Our founding fathers said it. When a democratic republic operates outside of the christian faith, soon a majority of the citizenry will be enacting, and enforcing, laws which are contrary to God's laws, and contrary to human decency. It is frightening to hear those in authority speak of the " rule of law ". It is not God's law they are talking about. It is their own, man made laws, that they want us to respect.
I challenge you. Read the word. Do as the Berean's did in Acts 17:10-11. Find out if things are true for yourself. And, don't depend upon one verse, or a few verses. Determine for yourself what the whole Bible has to say about a situation, or a concept. If something, which I say, doesn't agree with the whole Bible, don't believe it. But, if what I say does agree with what the Bible says from Genesis to Revelation, you better believe it, and act upon it!
