What Can We Learn From Daniel ?

Much has been written by commentators, and preached from pulpits, regarding the prophesies recorded in the book of Daniel.   Contrary to what is usually written or preached, I believe that most of these prophesies have already been fulfilled.

When one reads and re-reads scripture many times, one comes to understand God's pattern of progressive revelation.   Prophesies that will be fulfilled during the lives of those giving the prophesy,- or shortly thereafter, are given in much detail.   Prophesies, that will be fulfilled in the distant future, are much more general.   In addition, " days " frequently means ( in our way of thinking ) " years ".

This is especially borne out by the " seventy weeks " of Daniel chapter 9.   Scholars have calculated the time between the " command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem " and the time of Christ's sacrifice ( 69 weeks ) as being accurate almost to the day ( if the 69 weeks are in fact 69 years ).   If we apply that same reasoning to the 1290 days + 1335 days of Daniel 12:11, we come up with a figure, which is certainly very close to our present time!

Most modern commentators, when looking at the book of Daniel, forget the profound events, which took place in the late 60's and early 70's AD
( especially the destruction of Jerusalem, and the temple ).   Many of those events match perfectly with the prophesies in the book of Daniel.   When one tries to applies those prophesies to our days, the thinking soon gets very fuzzy.

Above are three references from the book of Daniel that I believe refer to our times.   As is recorded in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-, many shall awake from the dust of the earth " and " rise first " ( be raptured ) then those who are alive and remain shall be caught up together ( be raptured )  with them.

A person would have to live under a rock not to recognize that the " running to and fro " refers to our day.   Presidents, and other government officials, routinely visit three or more continents in a single day.

And, it saddens me to say that the wicked don't understand.   They don't understand spiritual things.   They don't understand God.   They scoff at the idea that Christ will soon return.   They openly ridicule God's commandments, and incredibly, consider them to be hatemongering.   At the same time, christians are being jailed, tortured, and matyred in many places around the world, especially the far east, and in islamic countries,- while American leaders turn their heads away, more concerned about money, than in the welfare of God's people.
