" Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, ' To your descendants, I will give this land. ' "
( Genesis 12:7 )" But in the fourth generation, they ( Abraham's descendants ) shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete. "
( Genesis 15:16 )The land was given to Abraham because of the ungodliness of the people who were there before him. However, Abraham was not to possess the land in his lifetime. Since God had created the earth, all the land on the earth was His,- to give to whomever He chose. Presumably, the original inhabitants, the Canaanites could have kept the land if they had obeyed God's commandments.
Abraham had a number of sons,- one by His wife Sarah, one by Sarah's handmaid Hagar ( Abraham's second wife ), and some by his concubine ( later his third wife ) Keturah. The first born son was Ishmael, born to Hagar, but God chose to establish His covenant with Sarah's son, Isaac. See Genesis 17:19. God told Abraham that He would establish His covenant with Sarah's son, even before Isaac was born. The problem that many have today, is that they are unwilling to accept the fact that as Creator, God can do anything He wants with His creation.
So, the rightful ownership of the land then passed from Abraham to Isaac. But, Isaac never possessed the land either. Isaac had two sons,- Esau ( Edom ) and Jacob ( later renamed Israel ). As the firstborn, Esau had the birthright, but he sold it to Jacob for a pot of stew. Thus the right to the land passed from Esau to Jacob. But Jacob also was not allowed to possess the land.
Jacob ( Israel ) had 12 sons. All 12 and their families went down to Egypt to escape a severe famine that came upon the land. All 12 died in Egypt.
About 400 years later, the LORD sent a deliverer, Moses to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt. After disobeying God a number of times, the Israelites were forced to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. After that, under the leadership of Joshua, the Israelites finally occupied the land that was promised to them. Again the Israelites were not totally obedient and thus the Canaanites were not totally eliminated from the land.
It wasn't until the reign of the kings, David and Solomon, about another 400 years later that the Israelites gained control of the land that God had promised them. Then, because of disobedience, they lost it again and eventually were taken into captivity by the Babylonians. They returned to their land about 70 years later, but were always under the dominion of another country.
Shortly after the time of Jesus Christ, whom the Jews failed to recognize as their Yeshua Messiah, the Romans came and destroyed Jerusalem. The Jews were then scattered all over the earth, just as God had warned them would happen.
About 500 years later, a person, who has come to be accepted by many as a prophet, came along and basically rewrote the teachings of the Old and New Testament. He claimed that the line of inheritance ran through Ishmael, not Isaac. For well over 1000 years, no one had suggested such a thing, but people follow this teaching anyway. His followers soon conquered much of northern Africa and the Middle East, including present day Israel/Palestine. These, and the Canaanites, were the ancestors of the modern Palestinians.
Then in the late 1940's and in the 1950's, many Jewish people returned to reclaim the land which God had originally given them. They have gradually displaced many of the Palestinians. Now both peoples claim the land that was originally given by God to the Israelites.
God has continually judged those people who occupied this land, and yet failed to follow His commandments. This is happening now to both the Israelites and the Palestinians. Both groups have failed to give God the proper glory. Many Jews have rejected their true Creator God in favor of Darwinian evolution. The Palestinians are mostly muslims who have changed God's name to Allah, and attributed to Him many things that are contrary to Biblical truths that were accepted for thousands of years before anyone even heard of Mohammed.
These are two peoples that are being judged by God. It is very poor judgement for other nations to get involved in this situation. The US would do well to stay out of it. Either peoples, the Israelites or the Palestinians could gain God's favor, and the land, if they would simply repent of their sinful ways and let God give them new hearts as He promised.
The rest of the world hasn't got a clue as to what is going on. Therefore they should stay out of something that they don't understand. It is tragic that neither the Israelites, nor the Palestinians will repent and turn back to the God of Abraham. Until one or both of them do, the killing and maiming will continue. It is possible that this will lead to the promised return of Yeshua Messiah, Jesus Christ. We are warned to be ready for His return. Are you ready?
