Who Is Stealing From Us?

" You shall not steal. "
( Exodus 20:15 )

" You shall not cheat your neighbor, nor rob him.   The wages of him who is hired shall not remain with you all night until morning. "
( Leviticus 19:13 )

" You cannot serve God and riches. "
( Matthew 6:24 )

This is a prophetic message.   In addition to telling the future, it is the function of a prophet to point out shortcomings in a people, and to warn the people of the consequences of these shortcomings.   If you read the books of Isaiah and Jeremiah, you'll see what I mean.

In addition to families, our society is made up of three large sectors.   Business and government have been around for a long time.   The third sector is relatively recent,- the environmental movement.   Interestingly enough, each sector is usually thought to be represented by a particular political party.   Although these are only very rough generalizations,- republicans are usually associated with business, democrats are usually associated with government, and now the green party is usually associated with the environmental movement.

Which, if any, of these groups is stealing from us?   Let's take a look.   In order for a commodity to be used, it must first be produced.   Since we are in bit of an energy crisis, let's use electricity for example.   Who produces electricity?   Is it the government?   No!   The government is not a major producer of electricity.   In socialist countries, governments often produce electricity, but in our country, the government does not.   Is it the environmentalists who produce electricity?   No!   Environmentalists talk about protecting various things, and conserving various things, but they don't produce anything either.   Well then, does business produce electricity?
Yes.   With the exception of a small number of federal projects, business is the only sector which produces electricity.

It follows then that if we need something, it first must be produced.   Passing regulations or price controls will not supply electricity, and will do nothing to solve our energy crisis.   What we need is more electricity.   Since government and the environmentalists don't produce electricity, they are not, and cannot be, the answer.   What we need to do, is to do everything in our power to encourage, and in some cases, make it possible, for business to produce more electricity.   You can't use, and enjoy, something that doesn't exist!   If you don't drill for oil, natural gas, coal, or uranium, you won't have it, and you won't be able to produce electricity with it.

Now business is not always the hero.   When a business withholds wages from its employees, for a week, or longer, it is basically stealing from them.   When a business fails to give a fair wage, so that it can make huge profits, it is basically stealing from its employees.   When a business cheats its customers, or engages in price gouging, it is stealing from them.   When a business fails to pay its share of taxes, it is stealing from us.

When an employee fails to do his or her best, to do the job assigned to him or her, or to work the agreed upon hours, the employee is basically stealing from the employer.   And, of course, if the employee takes materials, or uses company equipment for personal use, without authorization, that is stealing also.

Now into this picture comes the government.   The government is seen as the protector of the people, and the environment.   We must remember, however that the government cannot give us anything that it doesn't first take away.   For example, government can provide social security only if it takes large amounts of our money from us prior to our retirement.   If you've ever checked into this, you know that the government is giving you back very little money, in return for all that money, which the government has taken from you.   There are many things which the government does for us which are essential,- protecting us from foreign governments, and doing other things which the constitution allows it to do, for our common good.   But, when the government gets into other areas not authorized by the constitution, as it is today, it is basically stealing from us.   If your legislators are voting for these unconstitutional uses of our money, they are voting to allow the government to steal from you.   A big government, which basically steals from us, is not the answer.   It is a big part of the problem.

The environmental movement is closely associated with government.   The agenda of this movement is to use the authority and power of government to force people not to use property and resources that otherwise, they have every right to use.   Does it make any sense to protect wilderness areas, while human beings are suffering from lack of electricity, and eventually from the loss of jobs?   It is interesting to note that only the human race is so immoral, as to act in a manner destructive to its own species.   A few years ago, we were told that we must set aside national parks so that future generations could use and enjoy these wilderness areas.   Now we are told that we have to pay " use fees " to enjoy these areas.   That's more than stealing.   That's highway robbery!

Much of this activity is rooted in envy, greed, and covetousness.   To advocate that the government take something, or deny the use of something, that would be considered an illegal act for an individual to do, is a form of stealing.   Stealing is taking place all around us, and has been for some time.   It is so common place, that we don't even recognize that it is stealing!

How do you expect God to bless America,- a country where individuals, businesses, government, and environmental groups are all stealing, or attempting to steal, from one another?   We are preoccupied with getting something for nothing.   Who wants to be a millionaire?   Play powerball.   And, if you can't get it for yourself, get the government to get it for you.   What ever happened to," Ask not what your country can do for you. " ?   Let us repent now, so that God may forgive us.
