Relax, and enjoy. Unlike the other Noah's Ark sites, there is no request for money, or donations, on this site!
I don't claim that this is totally factual, but it is the best theory, that I can come up with. Some of these ideas came from the calculations of the, somewhat controversial, Italian explorer, Angelo Palego. Let's begin with a Bible quote from Genesis 8:
" Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat. And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen. "
The Bible doesn't give us an exact spot where the Ark landed, but since we know that there are broken pieces of the Ark on Greater Ararat near the eastern summit, we have to start there.
There are only two high mountains in the Ararat vicinity, that would be seen, if the water level, in that area, had been high enough to cover all the mountains, and had recently receded,- Greater Ararat and Lesser Ararat. There are no comparable mountains nearby, at least, as it is today. To talk about some of the smaller nearby mountains, as possible landing spots, is foolishness, since they are so much smaller. There are some high mountains a few hundred miles to the north, but no one, that I have read about, has suggested these, as possible Ark landing sites.
There is a relatively flat spot on Greater Ararat, near the eastern summit, that is commonly referred to as the " saddle ". If the Ark landed there, Noah could have looked out his window and seen the tops of both Greater Ararat and Lesser Ararat. There are other locations where Noah could have seen the two summits, but this one fits well into a scenario, that could have put the broken pieces of the Ark where they are located today.
Resting in the " saddle ", the Ark would probably have been stable, long enough to let everything come out of it. But when volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occurred, plus taking into account the high winds and extreme cold, that would have come about soon after the landing, the Ark probably toppled and broke apart. I know that the idea of it being broken is offensive to some, but nothing in scripture suggests that the Ark would forever remain in one piece.
Gravity would have brought any pieces downward. The pieces could have fallen down the eastern side of Ararat, but it appears that they came down the western side of the eastern summit, in that groove between, what is today, the Abich II glacier and the Abich I glacier. That would explain the pieces of the Ark in their present location. There had to be some ballast, in the bottom of the Ark to keep it upright, which would explain why the larger pieces appear to be nearly upright.
Did it actually happen this way? Maybe not, but it seems to fit with the information which we have to work with today. Sometimes it's kind of fun to speculate!
